It is based in a fictional New York City law office and centers on Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a college dropout and non-law school graduate who exploits his eidetic recall to persuade Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) to hire him as an associate. Suits centers on Harvey and Mike settling disputes and winning lawsuits while still keeping Mike's secret a secret. Additionally, it stars Gina Torres as the managing partner of the company, Jessica Pearson, Sarah Rafferty as Harvey's legal secretary Donna Paulsen, Rick Hoffman as the neurotic financial lawyer Louis Litt, and Meghan Markle as the driven paralegal Rachel Zane.
Even though Torres, Adams, and Markle all left the show, it was renewed for an eighth season on January 30, 2018.
Suits received many nominations throughout the course of its run, with Torres and Adams receiving separate nods. In addition to receiving two nominations for her work as a supporting actress, Torres won the 2013 NHMC Impact Awards for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series. At the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Adams was up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Two People's Choice Awards nominations were made for the show itself. Due to the success of the series, a brief spin-off called Pearson, which debuted on July 17, 2019, alongside the last season of Suits and focused on Jessica Pearson's entrée into Chicago politics. On September 25, 2019, Suits came to an end after nine seasons and 134 episodes.
